German legend Thomas Müller delivered another moment of pure magic as he scored a dramatic 97th-minute winner to lift Vancouver Whitecaps FC to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Orlando City SC on Saturday night, propelling his team to the top of the Western Conference standings. The Bayern Munich icon’s spectacular long-range strike capped off a remarkable comeback and extended Vancouver’s unbeaten streak to 11 matches across all competitions.
The match appeared destined for a disappointing draw after Orlando took an early lead through Dagur Dan Thorhallsson in the 24th minute. However, the Whitecaps showed tremendous character to equalize in the 81st minute through Nelson Pierre’s first MLS goal, setting the stage for Müller’s heroics.
With the game deep into stoppage time, Müller took several touches on the ball before unleashing a powerful low blast from 24 yards out that deflected off Orlando goalkeeper Pedro Gallese and found the back of the net. The goal was Müller’s sixth in just six regular-season appearances since joining Vancouver as a free agent in August, demonstrating the immediate impact the 36-year-old has made in MLS.
